The Pumpkin Farm 2011

Last Tuesday, Oct. 17, our class had a field trip to Mother Nature's Farm. It was a great day! Besides picking out a pumpkin to decorate and take home, the kindergarteners got to run through a hay maze, see farm animals, take a hay ride, and have a picnic. Here is everyone with their own pumpkin.

How do I ever catch up?

Well, it is May 3rd and this wonderful school year is almost over. I have no excuse, really, for not keeping up with this blog. I have taken some fabulous pictures through the year: the fall field trip, the Christmas concert, working and playing together, Students of the month, the Desert Botanical garden trip. I just had a huge mental block about sitting down to post them. So I apologize to my classroom families. And I will try to post the best of the best photos here as a good closure to the year. I may have broken through the mental block by posting about field day! So keep an eye on Woodbury's World!

FIELD DAY!!!

On Friday, April 29th, we had field day for kindergarten through fourth grade. What a great day! There were twelve different events and the boys and girls rotated around to all of them. Our class was divided into two groups, so I had to run back and forth to get some good photos. Here are the best of the best shots, event by event:

This was part of an obstacle course with dribbling, shooting baskets, and scootering. Here is Carlos making a great shot!

Malachi's sister helped a few of the kids to reach the basket.

This is what the scootering looked like. Go, Brexton and Coal!

Look at Madeleine's form!

Alicia and Carrisa are having their turn...

Next event: the Water Balloon Toss. Here Jordyn and Alicia pair up.

The three-legged race was hilarious. The kids really caught on to working as a team!

Kaydence and Malachi made a great team!

The next activity was the Limbo. How low can you go, Malachi?

Okay, if you can't go under it, just go over it. Go, Niko!

And Hunter!

That's the way to do it, Alicia!

Look at Jordyn!

The Hula Hoop event was so fun! We tried to make that hula hoop glide around many different body parts: wrist, leg, neck....

Victor was super at this!

This was the egg race. Don't worry, the eggs were plastic. But what a good chance to practice balance and focus!

Madeleine and Michael were being so careful!

Here is Jasmyne showing off the next event, the sponge race. The students were divided into teams. Each team had a bucket of water and a sponge. They took turns filling the sponge with water and then running across the patio to an empty bucket to squeeze the sponge. The team with the most water at the end was the winner!

Then there was the bean bag toss. This was a good challenge and many of the children were excellent shots! Here is Jordyn giving it a try!

How fast can you run? This was one of the events out on the field, along with how far can you kick? and how far can you throw? Those two were difficult to take pictures of, but I love these shots of the class racing across the field. Run, Camden! Run, Benny!

Here was another stiff competition between Niko, Brexton, and Coal. Field day was a really good workout and I got to find out what super athletes my students were. It was amazing!

August Student of the Month

Congratulation to Carlos Silva, August Student of the Month!
Carlos has been such a responsible student, always taking great care
in his projects. He is also very respectful when he sits quietly and listens to learn.
He is an example for the whole class. Good job, Carlos!

Pledge of Allegiance

I love to awaken a sense of patriotism in kindergarteners. Early in the year we study the American flag and learn the Pledge of Allegiance. I have been so impressed with the respect this class has for the pledge...and with their ability to find their right hand!

Making new friends

One of the first tasks in our kindergarten class is to bond together as friends and playmates. Everyone must feel secure and have their needs met in order to be free to learn to the best of their ability. Here we are playing together in our classroom.

Here are the boys and the girls in Room 104

Meet the girls in Mrs. Woodbury's kindergarten:
From Left to Right we have Lindsey, Kyla, Alicia,
Andrea, Jasmyne, Kaydence, Taylor, and Madeleine.
We are so sorry to say that we had to say goodbye
to Andrea, who had to move to a new school.
So we have seven girls in our class.
And here are the boys:
From left to right there is Fabian, Brexton,
Carlos, Quintyn, Malachi, Benny, Cameron, Camden,
Coal, Niko, Hunter, and Jess.
We also had to say goodbye to
Quintyn who moved to Colorado with his parents.
Since then, we have welcomed Noah to our class. We have twelve boys.
