Welcome Back!!!

Welcome to the 2010-2011 school year! I know I am jumping in a bit late to keep track of all our activities in Mrs. Woodbury's kindergarten, but that's okay!
As I was getting the room ready for the start of school, I had a mini miracle: all of my children showed up in my classroom! And my grandson!! So we snapped this picture and this is how I want to start off my blog for this year. Such joy! Such fun! Now that I am seven weeks in, I can attest that this event set the tone for the fun I would have this year. I absolutely love my class. Stay tuned for bits of joy and fun....

April Student of the Month

Congratulations to Katie Handschug, April student of the month. Katie always shows me she is ready to learn by sitting quietly and paying attention. She loves to share her ideas with the class and works hard to complete every project. She is a great friend and helps others remember the rules and do their best. I love her sweet smile and her thoughtful answers. Thanks for being in my class, Katie!

Popcorn Popping on the Apricot Tree!

I was so excited when we went to Utah last weekend and this tree was outside my daughter's house! Doesn't it look just like popcorn?

We have learned this springtime song: "I looked out the window and what did I see? Popcorn popping on the apricot tree! Spring has brought me such a nice surprise--blossoms popping right before my eyes! I can take an armful and make a treat; a popcorn ball that would smell so sweet. It wasn't really so, but it seemed to be popcorn popping on the apricot tree! Have your kindergartener sing it to you!!!!

Desert Botanical Garden

Our trip to the Botanical Garden was a huge success! It was a beautiful day to learn about desert plants and visit the butterfly garden. Our tour guides at the Garden were knowledgeable and friendly and provided hands-on experiences we will not soon forget!

I got carried away with the spring beauty at the Garden. It is beautifully planned.

The Butterfly Pavilion was the highlight of the day. All the children got up close to many different varieties of butterflies. The Pavilion is filled with colorful flowers and ponds to attract the butterflies and make them happy.

This was one learning area we stopped at in the Garden.

When we were through with our tour, we stopped at the park for a picnic and playtime. Then it was back to school on the bus.

Other events that we participated in included a soccer ball kick,

a softball throw, and a water relay. I was so impressed with the good sportsmanship and attitude by our class!

March

March certainly did come in like a lion and out like a lamb. So many rainy days! With our 10 day spring break, the month flew by. We have combined our Core Knowledge with April, so look for a journal at the end of April.

February Presidents

I just loved these projects representing George Washington and

Abraham Lincoln. We learned about these men as

Presidents of the United States and also as figures on some of our money.
